Fully Relying On God: FROG

Do you remember the story of the princess and the frog? The Grimm brothers published ‘The Frog Prince’ in their fairy tales of 1812. It’s still popular.

Sadly, the process of growing up costs the loss of some of our cherished fairy-tales. We don’t want to expose naiveté, so we may add irony to expressions of our adult longing for those happy endings.

We cloak disappointments with wit and clever, skeptical twists on these tales. For example:  ‘You have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince’.

Scripture reveals amazing facts and promises that powerfully exchange fairy-tales for real happy endings. It’s the most incredible story every imagined … and it’s true. Oh yeah, in THIS story the character roles are re-defined too.

With the kiss of faith, fully relying on God, assures our adoption into the heavenly royal family. We, children of the King, are the frogs … and our Prince is never hidden from us.

We don’t have to abandon our childlike wonder to be fully matured adults.

‘Child-like’ behavior seems best described as unashamedly dependent, uninhibited, and generously motivated. A child-like heart is not blocked behind a protective shield of skepticism or the defensive armor of distrust that (if we’re not careful) tends to build up with repeated, hurtful experience as we mature in this wicked old world.

In Luke 18: 16-17 we read:

… “But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.”

I am a kid at heart. I don’t think I’ll ever out-grow it. I love the fact that my adult wisdom, skill, or strength is not all that I rely on. If I had to depend on my own ability to find my way and to solve the mysteries of life in this world – I would be one sad little old lady.

God wants us to grow, and develop our gifts and talents – and then use them in service to Him, and to each other, with love.

It’s a beautiful thing to realize that with all of our learning and maturity – when we come to our Heavenly Father in child-like trust, we find Him willing and able to hear us – to hold us as we rest in His love.

Balancing that truth is a lifetime practice. I am blessed to be a King’s kid – in training.

Blessings, Love, and Laughter to you, my beloved siblings.
